My First Volunteer Experience

My First Volunteer Experience
Last summer, I volunteered at a local senior center, and it became one of my most meaningful memories. Every Saturday morning, I helped elderly residents read newspapers or taught them to use smartphones. Mrs. Lee, an 82-year-old lady, struggled with video calls to her granddaughter. Patiently, I showed her how to tap icons and adjust volume. When she finally saw her granddaughter’s face and laughed, tears filled my eyes. I also joined in their tea time, listening to stories about their youth—stories of hard work and simple joys. This experience taught me that kindness doesn’t need grand gestures; small acts can brighten someone’s day. It also made me cherish my family more, as I realized how much seniors need companionship. I plan to keep volunteering, for it’s not just about helping others, but also growing as a person.
